After the high A1c number and getting myself the CGM, I decided to try Mounjaro. Honestly guys, there was a day when I refused to take any medication because I could handle this situation without the intervention of prescription drugs. I remember the days when my regimen included a daily vitamin and a couple supplements. But we age and best laid plans, genetics, and some bad habits got me to where I am today.
This is obviously NOT an ad for Mounjaro, but I will tell you that for me, Mounjaro is easier to procure than insulin these days, and less expensive. It is a diabetes drug, although I know a lot of people take it for weight loss. I traded in the long lasting insulin twice a day for a once a week injection of Mounjaro and it’s working. I’m three months in and my A1c has gone from 9.1 to 6.3. I’m not sure exactly how it works, but for me, it works.
The first four weeks when the dose of the medication was very low, I supplemented with insulin. Now that I am at the 7.5 dose (max is 15) things have regulated quite nicely, and I will stay here. All my bloodwork is good. I’m good. I have very little appetite and have lost an additional 10 pounds in three months, but the most important thing to me right now is those blood sugars are now where they need to be. I’m happy!
Next up on the to do list is light weight training and more walking. The broken foot has healed, however, I broke my left pinky finger last month. I need to frickin’ stay upright! I have been prone to falls my whole life, but as my brother just said to me a couple days ago, I’m old now. Things don’t heal the way they used to! No kidding!
